It has often been said that the way women are treated within a society is a measure of that society overall state the greater Eldorado park needs to take a hard look at how women are treated withing the community , judging by the high incidences of domestic violence sexual abuse and rape. Lonwabi lwesizwe (loosely translated as ' joy of the nation') hosted their annual I am a women event at the Don Mateman civic center in extension seven on March 2017.,Established in 2014 the group is a non profit organization which focuses on youth development through exposure to skills and activities as a diversionary measure from illegal behaviors such as substance abuse and other criminal activities. Director Paris Makaringe Said we host the I am a women twice a year yo raise awareness about women issues affecting women. This years event at the Don't Mateman civic center has been biggest thus far and plans are in the pipeline to host another in Ennerdale tentatively scheduled for august 9. Guest speaker included Nicole Pedro(26) Morwesi Thaledi(34) Shakira Choonara(34) who through sharing their personal experience, had the audience in tears Pedro recounted a life of abuse by close family member And she engaged in destructive behavior to cope with metal scars. Thaledi a recently released offender ,described her involvement in a bank fraud and issued a warning to the young women about the dangers of being swayed by the life of easy money. Shakira Choonara is a motivational speaker And life couch who encouraged young women to strive towards achieving their goals and stay on cause towards a life of free substance abuse and its associated destructive behavior Diana Baloyi was the master of ceremonies and her energetic delivery provided much needed entertainment as she touched on issues affecting young women in our community. Graduates from the Hadassah center for women in De Deur their new found beauty therapy skills to the test as they pampered attendees with oil massages and make up.- Soweto Urban Eldorado
